Have you ever been working on a SharePoint project and had one of those requirements for randomly choosing items from a list (or set of lists) and displaying them on a page? It’s usually for a “Featured Photos” or “Featured Articles” section or something along those lines.
If so, check out my latest article in SharePoint Pro Magazine: Randomizing SharePoint’s Content Query Web Part.
Along with the article, there’s a download link where you can grab a pre-built, fully functional version of the web part and use it in your own project. Enjoy!
Great article….would love to see the source. The link to the download in the article is bad…do you know of an alternate path?
Hi DJ — Thanks for letting me know about the bad download link. I notified SP Pro Magazine and they got it fixed. If you try it again, it should work now.

Hey Bart,
thanks so much for posting this article, I found it very helpful. The source code is great, I deployed the solution straight to my site and the random CQWP worked immediately, no problems at all.
Great work!
